Lumber Dimensions
You may have noticed that 2 x 4's are not actually a 2" by 4" board. Rough sawn, it is a true 2 x 4 but drying and planing reduces finished size to 1.5" x 3.5". Following is a table of the sizes commonly found in the big box stores.
