|"The Meats Lab is a USDA certified location where you can buy fresh eggs and meat raised and produced by Auburn University. The meats lab does everything from harvesting to making fully processed products. Some popular items include smoked meats and sausages, steaks, ground beef, pork, chicken, and eggs."
Retail Sales Room:
I stumbled upon this little known side of Auburn University not long ago. "The Lambert-Powell Meat Lab is a fully functional inspected facility under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Service." Well, you and I would probably describe this as a butcher shop. Used also for training of USDA personnel, this is primarily a "classroom" for faculty and students to conduct research on meat quality and processing. And, from what I've seen, food safety here is the best there is.
They produce and sell a variety of fresh beef and pork. And the bacon and sausages are without equal. They even sometimes have BBQ for sale they have made and we were lucky enough to get a smoked ham for Christmas and New Years this year. I have to say, I never knew a ham could be so good.
If you are tailgating, they usually make bratwurst available late in the week of home games. Beef patties for hamburgers are almost always available as are most cuts of steaks. Regularly they have a variety of sausages.... kielbasa, Cajun, smoked.... in the sausage cooler directly opposite the entrance. Do yourself a favor and open the door to the sausage cooler when its full of sausage. The aroma is intoxicating.
Super clean facility, friendly staff, reasonable prices and the best meats you have ever had. And its Auburn. What more can you ask for?
My compliments to Barney Wilborn, Manager, the butchers, staff and students for making all our visits to the Lambert-Powell Meats Laboratory a great experience.

Entrance. Just before that door that takes you into the main facility there is a door on your right to enter the Retail Sales Room.

They have sausages and a discount section of frozen meats.
Directions to the Market:
I85 Exit #51 turn north towards Auburn University. You are on College Street. Turn left on Shug Jordan Pkwy. It will be about half a mile down Shug Jordan on the right.
